I joined the U.S. Navy August 1988. Reported onboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) on it’s maiden six month Mediterranean Cruise in January 1989 with the Fighter Squadron EIGHTY FOUR (VF-84) ‘Jolly Rogers’, a F-14 squadron based out of Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach, VA. In January 1991, put on third class petty officer while onboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) with VF-84 for another six month Mediterranean Cruise. During the cruise, the battle group went to the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm.
July 1992 put on second class petty officer (AK2) and in August 1992 left VF-84 and reported at the Naval Air Station Oceana Aviation Supply Department (NASO ASD) based at Virginia Beach, VA. in September of the same year. During the two year tour with ASD, took college courses in Math. I was also involved with ASD’s softball and bowling teams.
September 1994, left Naval Air Station Oceana and reported to Naval Air Station Brunswick, Maine in October of the same year. After checking in, was flown to Puerto Rico to join Patrol Squadron ELEVEN, a P-3C squadron based out of NAS Brunswick, ME. and were currently finishing a six month deployment. Mid December of 1994, the squadron reported back to NAS Brunswick, ME. Was the Operating Target Manager (OPTAR) of Patrol Squadron ELEVEN. While with VP-11 I was in charge of the funds specified for office supplies and fuel. The job consisted of the ordering of flight clothing for officers and aircrew of the P-3C aircraft, printing request, open purchases, and ordering of regular national stock numbered items for Patrol Squadron ELEVEN personnel.
January of 1996, Patrol Squadron ELEVEN embarked on yet another deployment to Sigonella, Sicily and during which the squadron got the news that they were to be decommissioned in the same year.
In August of 1996, reported to Patrol Squadron TEN. While with the ‘Red Lancers’, deployed to Iceland from August 1997 to February 1998. During the middle of November of the same year, I moved to Key West, Florida, where I worked at ASD. October of 2001 I left the Navy and moved to Texas. Something I wished I never did.
